This festival is celebrated as “Pillaiyar chaturthi” (or) “Ganesh Chaturthi” in all parts of India. Neivedyam–1–Poorana Kozhukkattai
Especially these celebrations are very famous in Mumbai. During my school days, I used to go with my mom or grandpa to buy pillaiyar on the morning of the festival day. Those days were wonderful. Today morning, me and my hubby went to the main market near by my house to get things needed for the festival. I have a great liking towards the purchase of things needed for the festivals. Love these kinds of things a lot. The essential purpose of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival is to teach a person to avoid the company of bad people and cultivate the company of the good. What does the term Ganapathi signify? ‘Ga’ means Buddhi or intellect, ‘Na’ means Jnana (Wisdom). ‘Ganapathi’ means one who is the Lord of the intellect and of wisdom. He is also the Lord of all Ganas (spiritual entities). Gunas also symbolise the senses. Ganapathi is thus the Lord of the senses. “Vigath nayakah Vinayakaha” (Vinayaka is one who is without a master above him). Vinayaka is one who drives away all sorrows, difficulties and miseries. He is the enemy of
obstacles. He confers happiness and peace (on his devotees). He is the master of all those powers (Buddhi and Siddhi). What is this Siddhi? When there is purity of mind, you achieve peace (which is Siddhi). Vinayaka is thus the Lord of Buddhi and Siddhi (the Intellect and Self-Realisation). Hence, every human being should acquire control over the mind. Thereby, on this day, people purchase vinayaka in different forms and sizes. They do pooja in a very elaborative manner. Finally, they take all the ganeshas in a procession and immerse them into the river. The neivedyams: spl ones for ganesha is kozhukkattai. There are also different kinds of kozhukkattai’s which we can make. The 2 types of kozhukkattai which i made was Poorana kozhukkattai(filled with jaggery and coconut) and ammini kozhukkatai( seasoned with mustard and green chilly)– Finally add lemon juice to it.
- LadiesFinger Curry
- Radish Sambar
- Ulunthu vada
- Kozhukkattai–Pooranam and ammini kozhukkatai.

My collections of Lord krishna
According to hindu lunar calendar, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day (ashtami) of the second (dark) fortnight in the month of Shravana. On his birthday, We used to put the small footsteps of Lord krishna from entrance of our house till the place of the room where the pooja is going to be held. We can see Lord krishna in 2 forms. 1) As a baby.-In Doddamallur temple near bangalore 2) Lord krishna with Radha.-In mathura(birthplace of Lord krishna)
One of the historic stories can be remembered at this point. Lord krishna is pleased with anything that is offered to him in true devotion.Krishna was happy with sweat drenched beaten rice offered by Kuchela or Sudama.
He was happy with the last leaf left in Draupadi’s Aksheyapatra. He was content with the gruel in Vidura’s (Dhritarashtra’s minister in Mahabharata) home. So, we need not indulge ourselves in doing too much of complex rituals. Just the japa ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’ rendered devotionally is more than enough.
After pooja with neivedyams
Aval with jaggery

This is one of the important pooja in hindu tradition. Usually, the fourth friday of the month “AADI” is welcomed by this pooja only. It is one of my favourites too. People usually keep Goddess Lakshmi face in silver and then decorate with flowers for the
pooja. But, in my hubby’s family, they follow a way which is different from the usual one. They paste the eyes and nose on the silver “sombu”(சொம்பு) and we consider her as Goddess lakshmi and decorate her with all grandeur. For pasting eyes and nose, urad dal is soaked in water for 5-6 hrs and then make it as a paste with the help of a mixer. This pooja has some historic stories also regarding it’s origin…
